Our team aims to keep you informed throughout and will contact you promptly if any clarification or additional information is required.

DNA Tests Available & Ordering Online

What DNA tests are available to order online?

You can order paternity, maternity, sibling, and grandparent DNA tests directly from our online shop. These tests are designed for personal peace-of-mind purposes only.

If you require a legally admissible DNA test, please contact our team for advice on booking an appointment through our clinic-based service.

Is the DNA test free?

The DNA test itself is not free. We offer two payment options depending on how you prefer to pay.

You can choose a low-cost DNA sample collection kit for £4.99, with free UK postage included. The laboratory analysis fee is paid later once samples are returned. Alternatively, you can pay the full laboratory analysis fee upfront, with the DNA test kit and UK postage included in the price.

Both options provide the same accredited laboratory testing and results.

Can I spread the cost of the DNA test?

Yes. We offer flexible payment options, allowing you to pay part or all of the laboratory fee at different stages of the process.

Full details of available payment options are provided during checkout and within your test documentation.

Can I book an appointment at a DNA clinic with one of these kits?

Unfortunately, no. We have different prices for DNA clinic appointments. If you prefer an appointment, please do not order a kit. Instead, please call 0800 988 7107 and speak to an advisor.

Legal vs Peace-of-Mind DNA Testing

Can I use these self-collection DNA tests for legal purposes?

No. Self-collection DNA tests are intended for personal information only and cannot be used for legal, court, or immigration purposes.

If you require a legally recognised DNA test, please contact our team to arrange a clinic-based appointment.

Can I book an appointment at a DNA clinic with one of these kits?

Home DNA test kits are designed for self-collection and cannot be converted into clinic appointments.

If you require a clinic-based or legal DNA test, please contact our team before ordering so we can advise on the correct service.

DNA Test Kits, Samples & Turnaround Times

How long will it take for the DNA test kit to arrive?

Delivery times depend on the postage option selected at checkout.

If the laboratory fee is paid upfront, postage is typically free and kits are sent using Royal Mail tracked delivery.

Is the paperwork complicated?

No. The paperwork has been designed to be as simple and straightforward as possible.

Clear instructions are included with your kit, and our team is available to help if you have any questions.

Is it difficult to take the mouth swab samples?

Not at all. Full instructions are included within the DNA kit. Here’s some top tips!

  • Take your time and follow the instructions.
  • Complete the sample envelopes before taking the samples.
  • Do one person at a time to avoid mixing-up swabs. Ensure the samples are placed in the correct corresponding sample envelope for each person.
  • Do not handle the swab end, you will contaminate the DNA sample and we won’t be able to test it.
  • Don’t let children take their own swab samples.
  • Air dry the swab samples before putting them in the sample envelope.
  • Always seal the sample envelope.

How long do the mouth swab samples last if I can’t return them straight away?

Unused mouth swabs can be stored until the expiry date shown on the packaging.

Once samples have been taken, they should ideally be returned promptly, but can remain viable for a short period if stored in a cool, dry place.

How long does it take to get the DNA test results?

DNA test results are typically issued on the next working day after samples are received and approved by the laboratory.

If any issue arises that could delay results, our team will contact you promptly.

DNA Test Results & Access

Who is entitled to the DNA test results?

All test participants aged 16 or over are entitled to access the DNA test results.

With appropriate consent, results can also be shared with an authorised third party.

How will I receive my DNA test results?

Results are normally provided securely by email.

Printed copies may also be available on request, which can take longer to arrive.

How do I open my DNA test results on email?

DNA test results are sent as a secure, password-protected PDF file.

The password is provided separately by SMS. Results can be opened using standard PDF reader software such as Adobe Acrobat. You can download the software here for free.

Can a DNA test result be inconclusive?

In most cases, DNA testing provides a clear and conclusive result. However, as with all genetic testing, there are rare situations where the DNA evidence does not provide enough statistical certainty to confirm or exclude the biological relationship being tested.

Inconclusive results are more likely to occur in more complex relationship tests, such as sibling or grandparent testing, or where a limited number of participants are included.

If a result is inconclusive, we will always explain what this means and discuss any available options that may help achieve a more informative outcome, such as including additional participants or further laboratory analysis.
