What is a Paternity DNA test?
A paternity DNA test compares DNA samples from a child and the alleged father to determine whether a biological relationship exists. Samples are collected using simple cheek swabs and analysed in a UKAS ISO 17025-accredited laboratory.
Each person’s DNA profile is compared across a number of genetic markers. A child inherits half of their DNA from their biological mother and half from their biological father. By comparing these markers, the test can confirm paternity with a very high degree of accuracy.
The biological mother is recommended to take part where possible, as her sample helps improve clarity and reliability. However, testing can still be carried out without the mother if required. This test is intended for personal peace of mind and is suitable for adults and children of all ages (parental consent required for under-16s).
Who takes part in the paternity test?
The standard paternity test involves:
● The child
● The alleged father
● (Optional but recommended) the biological mother
Including the biological mother helps the laboratory clearly identify which DNA markers have been inherited from her, improving result clarity. There is no additional charge for including the mother.
If the biological mother is unavailable, the test can still be carried out using samples from the child and alleged father alone.
Testing more than one child
Additional child samples can be included within the same test. The correct number of mouth swabs is provided based on the option selected at checkout.
Consent for children
Where a child is under 16 years of age, consent must be provided by a person with parental responsibility. Clear instructions are included with the test kit.

Paternity DNA Testing – Frequently Asked Questions
1. How accurate is the home paternity DNA test?
Our home paternity DNA tests are over 99.99% accurate when the alleged father is not the biological parent. All samples are analysed in a UKAS ISO 17025–accredited UK laboratory, ensuring high standards of accuracy and reliability.
2. How long do paternity DNA test results take?
Results are typically issued on the next working day once all samples have been received and approved by the laboratory.
3. When do I pay for the DNA test?
For pay-later options, you pay a low cost for the DNA sample collection kit when ordering. The laboratory analysis fee is paid later, once your samples are returned to our UK laboratory. All prices are shown clearly before you place your order.
4. Can the laboratory analysis fee be split?
Yes. Where available, options to split the laboratory analysis fee are shown clearly when returning your samples.
5. Does everyone need to be present to take a paternity test?
No. Samples can be collected separately and returned together using the instructions and labelled envelopes provided in the test kit.
6. Will anyone else know I’ve taken a paternity DNA test?
No. All testing is handled confidentially, with discreet packaging and secure result delivery.
7. Can this paternity test be used for court or immigration?
No. This home paternity DNA test is for peace-of-mind purposes only. If you require a legally admissible paternity test, please contact us to arrange a witnessed legal test.
8. Can a paternity DNA test result be inconclusive?
In the vast majority of cases, paternity DNA testing provides a clear and conclusive result. In rare situations, an inconclusive result may occur if the DNA profiles analysed do not provide enough statistical certainty to confirm or exclude the biological relationship. If this happens, we will explain the outcome clearly and discuss any available options to help achieve a more conclusive result.
